Gender Sensitisation a View - Dr. Annie Sunil

GENDER SENSITISATION - A VIEW

God created Man to enjoy life with all His manifestations in the garden of Eden. At once he realized that a life partner indeed should be made for the man to have her as companion. So very well it is proved that Man and Woman were created equal by God.
This takes us to David O’ Mekery’s words: “Women are created from the rib of man to be beside him, not from his head to top him, nor from his feet to be trampled by him but from under his arm to be protected by him, near to his heart to be loved by him”.
Etymologically the word ‘gender’ classifies the sex as Male/ Female as one’s identity. Today’s workshops would throw light on gender equity, gender equality, gender discrimination, transgender etc. It’s aim is to main stream gender issues in National development promote, the rights and dignity of marginalized groups in the society, raise awareness of human right, promote girl’s and children’s education etc.
Meaning of Gender Awareness: The knowledge and understanding of the differences in roles and relation between women and men, especially in the workplace.
Gender sensitization simply means feeling of empathy for opposite sex. Gender and sex have a thin line of demarcation between them. ‘Sex’ in terms refers to the biological differences between a male and a female, but in terms of social, cultural and economic status of both, we talk in terms of gender.
Developing gender sensitization rests on the shoulder of family members and educators, who can kindle the feeling of gender equality in the young girls and boys and develop empathy for each other.  This so called empathy can be inculcated by a family atmosphere, co- education schools, work ambience etc.
Gender Discrimination / Gender Inequality refers to unfair rights between male and female based on different gender roles ‘which leads to unequal treatment in life – eg dissimilar salary in workplace, in the aspect of opportunities for higher education,  not having a son meant to be disrespectful in society. It has affected our lives that the number of new born boys and girls is unequal and economy which is affected badly. Gender Discrimination could be stopped with education and progressive thoughts. Then people can live in fairness, no matter what gender they are.
Jay Michaelson insists that definitionally ‘Sex’ is about chromosomes; gender is about cultural practices.
Transgender: People in South Asia are called Hijra, Eunuch, Intersex people also known as Aravani, Aruvam or Jagappa. They are efficiously  recognized as third gender in South Asian Countries. Since April 2014 being considered neither completely male or female. Many work as sex worker for survival but times have changed we have Jogitta Mondal who was appointed as a judge of a Lok Adalak, that India is holding transgender beauty pageant shows, transgender music concerts etc.
The 5 top Transgender in India
1) Rudrani Chhetri - Delhi based activist and head of Mitra Trust, opened a modeling agency
2) Kalki Subramanian – author established Sahodari Foundation for the empowerment of Transgender.
3) Padmini Prakash India’s first TV Anchor
4) Madhu Kinnar first Transgender, Mayor in Chattisgarch
5) Manabi Bandyopadhyay, first Transgender Principal, in West Bengal
We hereby believe that this century the paramount of moral challenge will be the struggle for gender equality around the world.
So our imagination of a gender sensitisation India taking its shape gradually but surely
                        It is all about Humanity,
                        Living together in tranquility
Where no one is powerless or powerful
                        Submissive or Aggressive
Then it is a land of beauty
Where women gets an equal dignity

A Farewell Note

Adieu!
A day to remember!
You stepped in this serene campus with uncommon zeal
To make your beautiful dream fulfil
Struggled hard to learn all that you can
To accomplish this journey that you ran.

How we loved to be your mentors
As there is much more for you to know,
To overcome challenges and obstacles
To face in the next phase of your journey.

Alas! These cherished moments
Will live forever in our memories.

Be good ambassadors
To spread
The light of St Pious X.

Thank you for your endless passion in academics,
Your everlasting relationship with teachers, management, fellow juniors
And among yourselves.

Guide to an Aspiring Star
Annie Ma’am
Is not a teacher;
But
Mother!

She taught me love,
Not with a man
With the subject-English.
The expressions and thoughts of an author:
Through her voice she made me visualize;
Entering the world of make-believe.

Forty five minutes
Not confined within a room,
But,
Travelling the world of make believe
Is a bliss.

The knowledge you gave me
I hold it within my heart.
I am grateful to you
For imparting such great knowledge in me.

She is a guiding star
To aspiring stars like me.
Thank you!!
